Gefjun's Journey to the Edge of Iceland

Some journeys change you forever.

I was created for a very special mission - to travel with Alma, the creator of The Skrimslis, and twelve inspiring Icelandic women to one of the most remote corners of Iceland. My special horns were designed to collect the strength, joy and positive energy of everyone I met along the way and every place I visited, and I can honestly say… they are now overflowing.

Gefun arriving at Reykjahyrna

Our adventure began in the charming fishing village of Hólmavík, where we took our first walk together along the rugged coastline. The sea was calm, the mountains stood proudly around us, and I knew something extraordinary had begun.

From there we continued north to Djúpavík, home to the haunting remains of one of Iceland's old herring factories. Walking among the abandoned buildings was like stepping back in time. The silence was almost magical, broken only by the wind and the cries of seabirds.

Next came the hike up Reykjahyrna. Reaching the summit rewarded us with breathtaking panoramic views over the magnificent Westfjords. I may be small, but even I could feel just how vast and wild Iceland truly is.

That evening we stayed in Norðurfjörður, resting before the highlight of our expedition.

The following morning we boarded a boat bound for the remote Reykjafjörður. As we crossed the water, one of Iceland's most spectacular natural wonders appeared before us- Drangaskörð. Towering rock pinnacles rise dramatically from the mountain ridge, creating one of the country's most breathtaking landscapes. Watching these ancient cliffs emerge from the sea is something I will never forget.

Reykjafjörður feels like another world.

There are no roads, no cars and no permanent residents - only untouched wilderness, a handful of old summer houses, and an incredible sense of peace. It is one of the very few places where Iceland still feels truly wild.

Together we explored this remarkable landscape on foot, hiking through one of Iceland's most remote wilderness areas. We wandered to the beautiful white sands of Hvítusandar, surrounded by mountains, endless ocean and complete silence.

Along the way we admired colorful Icelandic wildflowers, watched birds soaring overhead and enjoyed unforgettable views of the mighty Drangajökull, Iceland's northernmost glacier.

After a long day of hiking, we relaxed in the warm geothermal waters of the historic Reykjarfjarðarsundlaug, a tiny hot pool hidden in the middle of this untouched landscape. Sitting there, surrounded by mountains and nature, I quietly soaked up every smile, every laugh and every wonderful conversation.

I may only be a little wool monster, but I now carry memories from one of the wildest and most beautiful places in Iceland. More importantly, I carry the friendship, courage and positive energy shared by thirteen incredible women who explored this magical corner of the country together.

As our journey came to an end, I realised I wasn't returning home alone. Tucked safely inside my little wool heart - and my special horns - I was carrying something far more valuable than photographs or souvenirs.

I was carrying the laughter shared around the dinner table, the silence of untouched wilderness, the strength of thirteen incredible women, the warmth of geothermal waters, the scent of Icelandic wildflowers, and the feeling of standing together in one of the most remote and beautiful places in Iceland.

The Magic of Strandir

There is another reason why this journey was so special.

For centuries, the Strandir region has been surrounded by stories of magic, hidden people and extraordinary natural energy. It is home to Iceland's rich tradition of folklore and sorcery, and many people believe these remote fjords possess a unique spiritual presence unlike anywhere else in the country.

Perhaps it is the untouched wilderness. Perhaps it is the profound silence. Or perhaps it is the geothermal springs rising from deep within the earth, the ancient mountains, and the endless ocean meeting at the edge of the world.

Whatever the reason, countless visitors describe Strandir as a place where they feel deeply connected to nature, where time slows down, and where everyday worries simply fade away.

It was the perfect place for me.

After all, I was created with one special purpose - to gather positive energy. Every hike, every shared laugh, every quiet moment surrounded by Iceland's wild beauty, every warm soak in Reykjafjarðarsundlaug, and every inspiring conversation with thirteen remarkable women became part of me.

I like to believe I now carry a little of the magic of Strandir wherever I go.

Now my next adventure begins.

Perhaps it will be with you.

When you welcome me into your home, you're not only receiving a one-of-a-kind Skrimsli with a story unlike any other. You're also bringing home a little piece of Iceland - filled with magnificent memories, friendship, hope and the positive energy gathered during this unforgettable expedition.

But this journey doesn't end with me.

By adopting me, you're also supporting a truly meaningful cause. Every euro from this auction goes directly to the Icelandic Rescue Team's Air Rescue Department. These extraordinary volunteers dedicate their time, courage and expertise to rescuing people in Iceland's mountains, fjords and remote wilderness, making adventures like mine possible for everyone who dreams of exploring this incredible country.

So when you give me a new home, you're doing much more than welcoming a little wool monster into your life.

You're carrying home the spirit of one of Iceland's most magical places, continuing my journey, and helping those who dedicate their lives to helping others.

From the bottom of my little wool heart...

Thank you. ❤️

I can't wait to see where my next adventure takes me.

Why I Was Named Gefjun

Every Skrimsli has a story, and every special journey deserves a special name.

I was named Gefjun, after one of the most remarkable goddesses in Norse mythology. Gefjun is associated with strength, wisdom, determination and creation. According to Icelandic tradition, she used the strength of four mighty oxen to pull a great piece of land from Sweden, creating the island of Zealand in Denmark.

To me, she has always represented something even greater - the courage to set out on an adventure, to embrace the unknown, and to create lasting memories along the way.

There couldn't have been a more fitting name for this journey.

I travelled with twelve remarkable Icelandic women, each bringing her own strength, kindness and unique spirit. Together we explored some of Iceland's wildest landscapes, laughed together, challenged ourselves, and filled my little wool heart - and my special horns - with unforgettable memories and magnificent positive energy.

I hope that wherever my next home may be, I will always carry a little of Gefjun's strength, the magic of Strandir, and the spirit of this extraordinary adventure with me.

Inspired by Iceland

Gefjun was designed as a tribute to Iceland and its unique natural beauty.

Her volcanic front represents the powerful forces that shaped our island, while her Northern Lights back celebrates the magical skies that dance above us during winter. Her black hands symbolize Iceland's dark winter nights, and her white feet represent the snow and glaciers that cover much of the country. Her crystal-blue eyes reflect Iceland's pure waters, while her green mouth is inspired by the moss that blankets our lava fields.

Of course, Gefjun's horns were not chosen by accident. Throughout her travels, she used them to catch and store all the good energy she could find in the Westfjords. The highest bidder will receive not only Gefjun herself, but also a generous supply of Westfjords magic, adventure, and positive energy.

Finally, her red hair is a nod to the many red-haired Icelanders whose roots stretch back through generations.

Together, these elements make Gefjun not only a one-of-a-kind Skrimsli, but also a small celebration of Iceland itself.
