Meet Gefjun Reykfjörð
Meet Gefjun, a very special one-of-a-kind Skrimsli.
Gefjun was personally created by the founder of the Skrimslis, Alma Björk, to accompany her on an extraordinary journey to the remote Westfjords of Iceland. Together, they travelled to a privately owned location in Strandir that can only be reached by boat.
Alongside twelve inspiring Icelandic women, Alma and Gefjun explored the wild beauty of the Westfjords, taking in the powerful energy, untouched nature, and breathtaking landscapes that make this part of Iceland so unique.
Their adventure began in Álftanes before continuing to Hólmavík, where they hiked around the town and along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
From there, they travelled to Djúpavík, one of Iceland's most remote settlements, before continuing to Norðurfjörður, where they spent the night and visited the famous seaside swimming pool, Krossneslaug.
The following day, they boarded a boat with Strandaferðir and travelled to Reykjafjörður, an even more secluded corner of the Westfjords. There they hiked with views over Drangajökull glacier and Þaralátursfjörður, bathed in the beautiful white-sand beach, and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Gefjun even stopped to snack on wild Icelandic flowers and herbs along the way.
This is a rare opportunity to own an Icelandic Wool Monster with a truly remarkable travel story — one that has journeyed to places few people will ever have the chance to visit. The areas Gefjun explored are renowned for their untouched wilderness, natural beauty, and unique atmosphere.
100% of the proceeds from this auction will be donated to the Icelandic Rescue Team's Air Rescue Department.
The winning bidder will also receive a signed copy of The Skrimslis of Lavaland.
A travel blog featuring additional photographs and stories from Gefjun's adventure will be published in the coming days.
Gefjun is the only Skrimsli that will ever have this exact story
Inspired by Iceland
Gefjun was designed as a tribute to Iceland and its unique natural beauty.
Her volcanic front represents the powerful forces that shaped our island, while her Northern Lights back celebrates the magical skies that dance above us during winter.
Her black hands symbolize Iceland's dark winter nights, and her white feet represent the snow and glaciers that cover much of the country.
Her crystal-blue eyes reflect Iceland's pure waters, while her green mouth is inspired by the moss that blankets our lava fields.
Of course, Gefjun's horns were not chosen by accident. Throughout her travels, she used them to catch and store all the good energy she could find in the Westfjords. The highest bidder will receive not only Gefjun herself, but also a generous supply of Westfjords magic, adventure, and positive energy.
Finally, her red hair is a nod to the many red-haired Icelanders whose roots stretch back through generations.
Together, these elements make Gefjun not only a one-of-a-kind Skrimsli, but also a small celebration of Iceland itself.
Why the Name Gefjun?
Gefjun is named after the Norse goddess Gefjun, a powerful female figure associated with strength, determination, generosity, and the creation of land.
Her name was chosen to honor the spirit of adventure that brought thirteen inspiring Icelandic women together to explore one of the most remote and beautiful corners of Iceland. Just as the goddess Gefjun is remembered for her strength and determination, this Skrimsli journeyed through the wild landscapes of the Westfjords, carrying a little piece of Iceland's spirit with her.
Combined with the colors and materials that represent Iceland's volcanoes, glaciers, northern lights, moss, oceans, and people, Gefjun is a celebration of Iceland's nature, culture, and storytelling traditions.
